Today Neoco attended the Pick Me Up Contemporary Graphic Art Fair. This is the first contemporary graphic art fair event of its kind in the UK. The fair according to its website “brings together the most exciting graphic artists working today”. This at first seems just another line of marketing but having attended the event it is indeed an event well worth seeing.
Upon entering you are met with a meccano style wall that leads you into the exhibition. The first exhibit is by British artist Hellovon and sets the tone for an innovative and culturally relevant exhibition. His pictures of Nike stars past and present are personal faves.
A large number of the designs are available to buy with the price neatly listed on the side of exhibits – although some were not for sale including the Nike ones
The exhibition also allows visitors to participate in the creation of prints as well as watching artists at work. At £3 a print it is both enjoyable and engaging, and is something that older galleries should look at when trying to attract customers.
An iPhone app that allows you to create your own prints would be an awesome addition maybe that’s something we could do at Neoco!
Perhaps the most stunning work is by that of Rob Ryan who specialises in delicate paper cuts his work makes you appreciate the time and effort artists put into their craft. All in all the Pick Me Up exhibition is affordable and hugely enjoyable. If you get a chance pop down to Somerset House and check it out!
