We were invited to join the IPA last year, which made me really happy. I have a lot of time for the IPA as they do a lot on behalf of us agencies, but they also do a lot for clients. One of the initiatives that I particularly like is their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules. CPD is the means by which members of professional associations maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge and skills and develop the personal qualities required in their professional lives. I’ve always thought that is tremendously important for everyone to keep learning and developing in their professional life as it makes them much better at their job – which in turn makes us as an agency better for having these people as employees.
We’ve being doing CPD for staff since we started but it’s only been since joining the IPA last year that we formalised this and the results have been impressive to say the least. It has absolutely contributed to better solutions across the agency, the staff are more ‘energised’ and this has really benefitted our clients too. I think we’ve even impressed the IPA with how much we’ve embraced this side of things, from staff exchange days with clients to webinars, lectures and mentoring.
Some other great news is that we are not even at the end of April yet and already we have an average CPD of 4.9 hours per staff member in the agency which is nearly double the industry average of 2.65 hours per staff member.
As a client, there should be little option in choosing which agency to work with; An agency that sincerely invests in it’s people, their knowledge and new ideas or one that just keeps up with the norm.
