Friday afternoon, walked in to Carphone Warehouse and picked up some iPhones for myself and the team (more to come too). One weekend of playing (and hacking) later… and I love it. I have to confess that I wanted to love it… but by Friday I was ready to go and throw it back through CW windows! This is a very progressive phone in so many ways but in so many other ways, it feels dated and unusable. I hate having to import everything via iTunes and the idea of purchasing ringtones is a prehistoric way to bleed the faithful. Well, thankfully that took me all of 20mins to find a workaround – simple too (email me for info)! It is irritating that my bluetooth is instantly visable without a way to hide it. Spam ahead bluecasters! But then again, the touch interface is the best around and it is a magnet for people wherever you are, just pull it out and watch the flock and fondle. Video quality is great with no ghosting. Sound quality is typical iPod – very loud and very tinny! shame. Texting is a pain and my thumbs pressed the wrong digit several times but I am used to it now. All said and done it was a nice purchase. As great as this phone is, the best thing is what it signifies… hopefully a new dawn in mobile design and interface.
